About Us

Terrace lounge at La Casa de Loto with mountain views

La Casa de Loto is a semi-silent meditation and yoga retreat hidden in the mountains of Guatapé, surrounded by forests, birdsong, fresh spring water, and beautiful views. Open to everyone, our days follow a simple contemplative rhythm, like a shukubō—the Japanese tradition of temple stays.

Each day is shaped by guided open awareness meditation as taught by Dzogchen master Dudjom Rinpoche, two hours of traditional Hatha yoga and pranayama, and silent sittings, while periods of noble silence alternate with optional moments of connection.

Arrive any day and stay for as long as you wish, with a minimum stay of three nights. This is not a program to complete—just a place to slow down, let your nervous system settle, and rediscover the natural clarity and openness of awareness itself.

OUR STORY

Pema, Our Founder

Pema

Before founding La Casa de Loto, Pema was a professional musician searching for answers to questions that had followed him since losing his parents in childhood. During one of the darkest periods of his life, a sudden realization changed how he understood himself and his mind—and led him into years of Buddhist study, yoga practice, and wandering retreat. Along the way, he received teachings from masters such as the Dalai Lama, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, and his guru, Loppon Jigme Rinpoche…

OUR PRACTICES

Daily Practice

01

Open Awareness Meditation

Group meditation session in the temple hall

Open awareness meditation invites you to stop trying to control the mind and recognize thoughts, emotions, and sensations as passing experiences within the natural clarity and openness of awareness.

02

Hatha Yoga & Pranayama

Group yoga class reaching upward in the shala

Each day includes two hours of Hatha yoga and pranayama—gentle, alignment-based practices from the Indian and Tibetan traditions that release tension and prepare body and mind for meditation.

03

Noble Silence

Guests relaxing quietly in chairs on the deck

Observed each morning until 2 p.m., Noble Silence offers a gentle pause from communication, creating space to turn inward, settle the mind, and experience daily life with greater presence.

04

Mindful Meals

Vegetable curry with rice served at the table

Three wholesome vegetarian meals are prepared each day with local ingredients and enjoyed mindfully—breakfast and lunch in Noble Silence, followed by dinner together in relaxed conversation.
